BIBLF Summer Theater Camp!
Basics: Believe in Books Summer Camp is a theater & story based day-camp. At Believe in Books Literacy Foundation, we believe in the healthy development of young minds through literacy programs that encourage early reading, imagination, and physical activity. Campers will be encompassed in the performing arts as they learn the basics of storytelling and performance from professionals in the field. Each week, campers will experience the art of how stories can take us on a magical journey through our imagination, and will then get to make those stories come to life.
Campers will have an experience like no other, learning from and performing alongside professional actors! Each week, campers will work on bringing a literary classic to life for an audience of more than just family & friends. They will learn and take part of an entire performance process from auditions through final bow, all with the help of some professional actors as their counselors & mentors.
Our Summer Camps run in week-long sessions Monday through Friday, 9AM to 4PM, with productions scheduled each Friday @5PM & Saturday @10AM for the general public to attend. Each week is a different piece of work, so campers can build their resume by coming for one week, or the entire summer! All camps are held on site at the 100-Acre Wood!
Logistics: Camp takes place at the Theater in the Wood. Where we use the theater, the theater stage, lobby, and the outside property for all our rehearsals and camp activities. Kids ages 7-14 come prepared to have fun filled days including acting, singing, dancing, crafting, creating, playing games, listening to and reading stories, and enjoying the fresh outdoors! Campers are asked to provide their own sack lunch, as well as a small snack for later in the day.
Schedule: Drop off is at 9AM, Pick Up is at 4PM, Monday through Thursday. Days will begin with some morning activities. Once all campers arrive, we start our planned activities & rehearsals! Throughout the day we have blocks dedicated to learning a foundation of:
Auditioning – Campers will learn a dance, sing a song, and read some lines alongside other campers of similar ages, and will be cast appropriately for age & ability!
Acting – Once roles are announced, campers will rehearse scenes from the performance;
Dance – Campers will learn dances that will take place in their show;
Music – where we learn how music can enhance a piece of work, and work on songs featured in our performance (in the form of tracked music)
Games – Some fun theater & camp inspired games to make playtime, fun and inventive
Story Time – where we can read & share stories and talk about the art of storytelling
Outdoor Adventure – Where campers are taken out on our fantastic trail system for some interaction with nature.
